After a day of brunch and movies and other activities, what better way to end the day than with some good ol’ ramen! But I felt a bit a spontaneous that day, didn’t want the typical Ajisen or Ramen-Kan, we decided to see a new joint in the Pitt St Westfield, Ippudo which originally was a branch in Japan that expanded here.
It’s a really new place too, opening just under a month ago, the place looked great. Really had a nice vibe to it
But one of the best things about this was the staff when you walked in. Typically in a Japanese restaurant, you’re greeted and farewelled by people shouting at you but here in Ippudo, it wasn’t just a few of the staff, it was quite literally, the entire staff screaming at you for about 5 seconds. I even saw one of the chefs picking up a cone to scream into to make it louder. And they did it to everyone, best experience! 😛
Now for the food. It was nothing exceptional to be honest. I ordered a pork belly ramen in a miso soup base ($18!). The broth was great, it was clean and tasty and the noodles fresh and amazing but the price and amount you get didn’t seem reasonable. We also had unagi rice which was great too, but again, tiny servings:
Overall, while it’s great, I think I’d prefer Gumshara or Ryo next time, simply because of the value.
